Today I’m hemming up the final hem on two of the dresses. I find the way to achieve a perfect hem… is to anchor in the color blocking (the additional strip of alternate colored material), and then hand sew it in place, thereby making a truly invisible and ultimately breathtaking hem (which no one will fully appreciate, except for me, the designer).

So I hem and hem, one whip stitch every centimeter, and little by little the dress turns from a myriad of blue crepeback satin pieces into a gorgeous party dress, fit for the perfect summer wedding.

In other news, I’ve acquired some little baby bumpers and quilt. Aren’t they precious!? Baby T will be sliding into his new home, here in the guest room — the beautiful yellow room, I’ve been perpetually organizing and outfitting for months. So yellow and green (aqua, robin’s egg blue etc.) will be the colors of choice no matter the gender. But by golly I’m so eager to find out!

Busy weekend of parties and festivities coming up, then family visits, and finally Babymoon!

Oh what a delightful Friday it was!

I sewed until my little fingers were numb, and my baby belly was sore (how that happens, I have NO idea). As I was finishing up for the day, my sweetheart brought up a package we’d gotten in the mail. Not expecting anything, I was quite excited. What is better than a Friday parcel…from a dear friend?

To my delight, this was inside.

A preciously sweet bib — how appropriate considering his debut yesterday — and a perfectly gorgeous handmade aqua and chocolate baby coverlet. I wish I could capture how sooooooft and cuddly this coverlet is! It has velour, flannel, and a few squares of [southern] seersucker. If the baby is a boy, he’s getting a pair of seersucker pants to match his father’s (and now, this beautiful coverlet!).

What a dear friend, and how tremendously kind to just whip up this charming [and oh-so-Mrs.T] gift. Such blessings of friendship, family, and now this precious baby are quite humbling. Mrs. T has much to be grateful for!

SP11 Dress Batch Update:
Cruising along, and enjoying the measurement minefields. I can’t wait to meet the women who will be wearing the dresses — all I have for some are a few inches scratched onto a piece of paper. The mystery is unfolding a bit each day. Another disobedient zipper is installed, and more hand-sewing piles up as linings and hems appear. The colorblocking (french with royal navy blue…oh la la) has an absolutely amazing effect on me. The bride selected it — little knowing it would be one of the hottest trends this summer. She’s a visionary, what can I say?

Has the summer been as sweet to you as to me?

Our dear little tenant moved in 1 May, into the green room — and what a delight it has been! The rooms of the “Inn” are filling up and my goodness it has been a blessing in many ways. Now we just have to negotiate the proper cool air ventilation tactics for the upstairs in this seasoned row-home.

Another new tenant that we’re excited about will be joining us in September. Preparations are in full swing, and it’s going to be a full summer of procurement!

What we have so far for our dear “little t” — a little jumper his father wore on the way home from the hospital, and a little pair of booties that I wore. This will be the first grandbaby on both sides, and my goodness he’s* in danger of being loved to death by grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins, not to mention his adoring parents.

You may be wondering about the blue bliss bridesmaid dresses! They are coming along at a breathtaking pace. Each day another part is stitched into place, becoming part of a beautiful day in July when two sweethearts covenant before the Lord and friends.
Here are some bodices, sitting in a row, waiting to be nipped, turned and pressed. I will not reveal full pictures of the dresses till the wedding has gone off. Must leave a little suspense.

As my beautiful belly gets bigger it’s harder to wrangle fabric (snipping, stitching, stooping), so I’ve been pushing to finish at an early date. Then I hope to make a few of those flirty skirts & flowy tanks to accommodate my belly and this oppressive heat. BUT. No sewing for me or Baby until these dresses are D.O.N.E. 🙂

You may be asking about the nursery. Well, I’ve just finally found my theme. Thankfully! Hedgehogs and birdies. My husband was not surprised that birds made the cut. I’ll post more in the coming days.

Best wishes for a sweet Friday for you all — hope it proves to be as pleasant as mine promises to be!

*No gender yet, but soon we’re hoping to find out. I use “he” in the general mankind terms 🙂
