I know I’ve been tempting some of you with reports of my new red door. So here is the proof.

I was gripped with the urge last week to completely cranberry cherry berry RED our front room. SO. I painted the door and whipped up some valances for the window. I must say I just LOVE how they all turned out. Of course reds don’t photograph exactly the way you want them too. But, this is about as crisp and cheery a red you can find.

I’m working on the robin’s egg blue accents for the rest of the room — but until they are complete, the red is all that is noteworthy 🙂

(Here is my current inspiration on Pinterest)

And, I completely forgot in the last post. I do have proof that there ARE hedgehogs in the baby’s nook. All the pictures were completely devoid of any furry creature. Here are the stuffed animals, and the final wall (complete with painted birdcage and hanging artwork).

And so that is the current state of things — can’t wait to bring the little lady home to the Inn soon 🙂

So! Thanks to my dear sisters, and a very diligent day of snipping, sewing, gluing and painting, we are done with the baby’s room!

Theme: Yellow & gray.
Motif: Birds & Hedgehogs.

I GREATLY desired to make at least a little something for my little girls room, so I grabbed some pretend vintage prints and whipped up a crib skirt. I absolutely refused to make baby bumpers or my own sheets. Perhaps when she’s soiled all the clean ones, I’ll whip up a few for her. Yellow & grey birdy fabric w/ stenciled hedgehogs? YES. Here is the progress, along with a snapshot of some CUTE little burp-clothes (gifts from a dear friend, dyed old cloth diapers and stitched fabulous ribbon on. Love love love.) and the little white IKEA boxes that now hold all sewing materials.

And here we have a better view of the window, with the fabulous curtain made by Aunty M., along with the gorgeous lamp, and tidy shelves.

My sweetheart and I put up the shelves after a long day out at IKEA with my sisters. Quite a challenge hanging such usefulness from drywall, plaster and molly bolts. But. We managed, and put yet another “old-house” notch in our belts. And now they look stunning.

You’ve seen these items before…our dear little girls Going HOME outfit! The jumper was worn by my husband, and I wore the booties. Thanks to Aunty J & M, the little rosettes were added for our little girl. How fitting that her outfit matches her room. 🙂

And finally, little peep at her changing table (tucked into an open closet), snugabunny and new diaper bag.

Luckily, the room was already painted a beautiful whisper yellow, so I just added crib, curtains, rug, shelves and artwork. Simple transformation overall, but it took a bit of time, as mama bird seems to be moving slower than usual these days. Perhaps its the beautiful bump that keeps on growing 🙂 A heartfelt cup of THANK YOU to all my dear sisters (Aunty J, aunty M, aunty R, and aunty L!) for getting it truly 100%!

Doesn’t this time of year make you desire everything to be fresh, green and growing?

After laboring over which color to paint the master bed (putty or greenish?), my husband and I decided to go with a celery sage green — and Behr happened to have exactly what we wanted, aptly named “sanctuary.”

Early Saturday, we collected the paint, moved furniture to the center of the room, and proceeded to coat the walls in the most perfect green you’ve ever seen.

For once, I remembered to document the pre-green state:

Then we painted, and painted and painted. Rehung the art, threw a fresh splash of white shiny paint on the window trim, and after spent about the next four hours admiring the glorious finished work.

All in all, I’m quite proud of the result. Next on the list — finish the guest bedroom. I’m excited about making the “Yellow Room” into another sanctuary of sweet colors and beautiful things.

While growing up my dearest older sister and I would continually joke about being the city and country mouse, even though we grew up together 🙂 So. Now, whenever we visit no matter where we’re coming from or going to, or who’s home we reside in, we know who is truly at heart, the country and city mouse.

So last night I collected my sister, and drove her to the Elle Street Inn, where we enjoyed grilled cheese & crab on sourdough. Delish.

Today we’ve been eating delicious food, talking non-stop, releasing patterns (check out Elegant Economy!), and shopping. I also poked my by entire yarn collection in my sister’s lap and asked for a proposed recommendation for each hank of yarn I own. Luckily she picked out all my needles and stash, so I just needed some additional guidance.

Also, thanks to my sweet sister, I have procured a fabulous flirty skirt pattern for the spring that I’ll be making dozens of, once I finish the bridesmaid entourage of dresses (pics to come).

We’re off to go shopping, will be tweeting our progress!

Item accomplished yesterday worth noting: The guest bed is now the guest bed, and NOT the laundry bed. Dear me, I’ve been such a little hustling bustling woman that I do occasionally forget do the most simple tasks (i.e. sweeping the dreadful dust-bunnied stairs, and putting away folded laundry). It is my personal resolve to not allow such trifles to guilt me from my true areas of enjoyment.

  • Making cupcakes, popovers and other delectable, typically mini, delights
  • The preparation and hosting of many friends, for over-nighters or simple dinner fare
  • AND — Sassing you all up with the latest trends — [SPRING FASHION ALERT coming soon (and yes, it may include orange, citrus)
  • Inspiring y’all with new sewing & thrifting ideas and tricks

My vintage fashion barrel came about a month ago, but I only unpacked it this past week.   Much enjoyment from these new treasures. Doesn’t it look tempting?  I can thank my dear childhood playmate for these sweet treasures.

& now for tail of the cow. As I’m sure you all saw from the tweets, my sweetheart and I ventured out last weekend. One of the grand events we enjoyed was a cattle sale. I’ve never been to one, but I tell you look at this gorgeous cow! Actually this is a vintage one I dug up for you on GF 🙂

Here is another lovely bovine…did you ever see such a pretty cow?

I’m off to industriously hem a GUAVA dress, and purchase materials for a batch of commissioned bridesmaid dresses. Have a bird-chirp monday 🙂

Inspiration: A french catalog ad of goodness. With chairs, and a pretty chaise lounge

My dear friends, as per my usual habit, I get quite excited about re-doing a room, and forget to take an ever helpful (brag-worthy) “before” shot. Well. Here she is again, with desperate resolve to remember “next time.”

However, as I’ve yet to paint the walls and do up the curtains of the master bed, there is still the distinct possibility of a sassy after-pic. So. I don’t feel completely forlorn yet 🙂

The goal of the most recent transformation was sassy elegance. Our room had been functionally arranged, but after acquiring a snazzy headboard (that perfectly matched the current bedroom furniture, compliments of Goodwill $35), I knew it was time to re-theme and retool. So Mr. T and I moved the bed, arranged new headboard, and hung artwork (pounding my fingers black and blue, like Anne Shirley). The frenchified bureau was the most significant accomplishment.

I expect once the walls and curtains are completed, I’ll have more grand accomplishments to share.

Why yes, I do 🙂

While out collecting fabric samples for the curtains…and boy did I find some lovely greens! I spotted the most charming little birdhouses. Everything this time of year is Robin’s Egg Blue, or Light Green Apple. I just love it, and am continually battling the urge to transform my entire home into a frothy sea foam robin’s egged blue sanctum.

BUT. I’ve been good, and instead of purchasing even a little birdhouse for the mantle, I grabbed a little bottle of paint instead. Goal: to paint some currently owned items, and to not add to the great amount of sweet nothings I own. Here’s the day’s work so far:

And here she sits, on the piano ushering in guest and spring…or whoever happens to be entering the Elle Street Inn 🙂

And a little thank you to Miss GF for the beautiful vintage birdy!
