So! Thanks to my dear sisters, and a very diligent day of snipping, sewing, gluing and painting, we are done with the baby’s room!

Theme: Yellow & gray.
Motif: Birds & Hedgehogs.

I GREATLY desired to make at least a little something for my little girls room, so I grabbed some pretend vintage prints and whipped up a crib skirt. I absolutely refused to make baby bumpers or my own sheets. Perhaps when she’s soiled all the clean ones, I’ll whip up a few for her. Yellow & grey birdy fabric w/ stenciled hedgehogs? YES. Here is the progress, along with a snapshot of some CUTE little burp-clothes (gifts from a dear friend, dyed old cloth diapers and stitched fabulous ribbon on. Love love love.) and the little white IKEA boxes that now hold all sewing materials.

And here we have a better view of the window, with the fabulous curtain made by Aunty M., along with the gorgeous lamp, and tidy shelves.

My sweetheart and I put up the shelves after a long day out at IKEA with my sisters. Quite a challenge hanging such usefulness from drywall, plaster and molly bolts. But. We managed, and put yet another “old-house” notch in our belts. And now they look stunning.

You’ve seen these items before…our dear little girls Going HOME outfit! The jumper was worn by my husband, and I wore the booties. Thanks to Aunty J & M, the little rosettes were added for our little girl. How fitting that her outfit matches her room. 🙂

And finally, little peep at her changing table (tucked into an open closet), snugabunny and new diaper bag.

Luckily, the room was already painted a beautiful whisper yellow, so I just added crib, curtains, rug, shelves and artwork. Simple transformation overall, but it took a bit of time, as mama bird seems to be moving slower than usual these days. Perhaps its the beautiful bump that keeps on growing 🙂 A heartfelt cup of THANK YOU to all my dear sisters (Aunty J, aunty M, aunty R, and aunty L!) for getting it truly 100%!

Dear friends! The dresses are done and runway ready! OR aisle ready, I should say. By the end of the fitting phase, I was referring to them as my six little blueberries. Especially since blueberries are in season right now (bless them!). I’m waiting to unveil the final look until the wedding day, but have no fear, the blueberries will be documented.

With the completion of the dress project, I was able to start outfitting the baby’s room. This means, rearranging and re-purposing the Yellow Room. I started by sweeping up the mounds of blue thread that have attached to everything in sight. Moved on to dusting and other boring tasks. Then I spotted some Cath Kidston wrapping paper I’d picked up in the UK a few years ago. It just screamed drawer liner. And since I’ve planned on using the vintage green dresser as the changing table bottom, what could be more perfect? I was cooing with delight.

Boring drawers…

Transformed with cupcakes and CK. I intend to get a plastic liner as well to go over the top of these. Further sealing in the beauty.

Today I’m hemming up the final hem on two of the dresses. I find the way to achieve a perfect hem… is to anchor in the color blocking (the additional strip of alternate colored material), and then hand sew it in place, thereby making a truly invisible and ultimately breathtaking hem (which no one will fully appreciate, except for me, the designer).

So I hem and hem, one whip stitch every centimeter, and little by little the dress turns from a myriad of blue crepeback satin pieces into a gorgeous party dress, fit for the perfect summer wedding.

In other news, I’ve acquired some little baby bumpers and quilt. Aren’t they precious!? Baby T will be sliding into his new home, here in the guest room — the beautiful yellow room, I’ve been perpetually organizing and outfitting for months. So yellow and green (aqua, robin’s egg blue etc.) will be the colors of choice no matter the gender. But by golly I’m so eager to find out!

Busy weekend of parties and festivities coming up, then family visits, and finally Babymoon!
